THE STORY:

I've been wanting to try a lyric-less vid and also to do another humorous vid for quite some time now, but my attention span hasn't been up to it. Till this idea, combining the two, hit me. What I really liked about Smile Time was seeing what on any other show would be cute and fuzzy muppets getting the regular Angel treatment: being evil and/or dramatic and/or hacking each other to pieces with swords. The contrast between what you expect when you see muppets and what you actually get, well, that's comedy gold right there ... and so, rather than choosing a cute and fluffy or sentimental song to go with the puppet images, I thought I'd try to really amp up the drama, make it as action-movie-trailer as I could. I've loved the music from Conan for as long as I can remember, and nothing says Coming Soon, Sword Fighting Action And Serious Trauma! like Anvil of Crom, so it popped instantly into my head. And once it was in, I couldn't get it out, and I had to make this happen...

This may well be the fastest vid I ever put together. Having all the source together in one episode made things fly. Only having to cover a minute of music was even better. The longest part was trying to capture the music from the DVD and splice it together in just the right way... And so, 2 days later, here it is. Not a master work, but hopefully entertaining enough. I amuse myself anyway!

The name, by the way, comes from the opening monologue of the movie. The narrator finishes his introductory spiel with "let me tell you of the days of high adventure..." and then we cut to Conan's father making his last sword.

That was fantastic!

Embarrassed, here! Downloaded the realplayer, and now I can see the vid! Very, very, very, enjoyable. A great job! thank you!

Tray writes:

This was fabulous! Just a perfect little meshing of song and puppet. I saw the treehouse and was thinking...that's the Treehouse of Woe!

Valancy writes:

*sniffs* You make my world a happier place. I nearly died. Lovely editing, by the way! Not to mention the subject and choice of music. Must stalk you on lj now. ;)

Ali writes:

High Adventure cracked me up. The seriousness of the music along with the Angel puppet furrowing his eyebrows... It was too much. I couldn't stop laughing. Hella good job! :D

Redd Summers writes:

Oh my... I'm in tears from laughing so hard! You could really find a career in splicing, because the fades and cuts really went with the beats of the music. Not to mention Puppets with this type of drama could ONLY work because of Joss... In my opinion, THIS should be the trailer for this eppy!
